The pact’s financial magnitude was undisclosed but was labeled as substantial in offsetting expenses for this year’s National Schools Athletic, Swimming and Cycling Championships which gets underway on Monday.

This year marked the fifth occasion that Digicel has thrown its weight behind the annual championships. Digicel will also be the title sponsor once again.

“We are passionate of youth and sport development in Guyana and we once again pledge our commitment to the championships,” Abrams stated.

Fogenay thanked Abrams on behalf of Digicel and added “We hope that they continue with us for years to come and that the relationship can only grow in the future. We are working hard to ensure that this year’s championship is the best out of all the previous ones.”

Meanwhile, the swimming Championships will be held on Monday at the National Aquatic Centre at Pattensen.

In addition to the swimming competition, two field events, Long Jump and Shot Putt, along with the 10km road race, 40km and 25km cycle road race will also take place on November 23.

The Games Village will be established on Woolford Avenue. Tutorial High, North Georgetown Primary and Secondary Schools and Richard Ishmael Secondary will house the 16 Districts from across Guyana that will compete at the Championships.

The Games Secretariat has been officially opened at GTU Headquarters, Woolford Avenue, with Districts submitting their entries. The Opening Ceremony for the championship is scheduled for Tuesday at 10:30h.
