Schoolboy dies in Corentyne crash, others injured

A 16-year-old Skeldon High School boy was killed last evening after the minibus he was travelling in was involved in an accident at Bengal Public Road, Corentyne, Berbice.

Narvin Boodhoo of Crabwood Creek was pronounced dead on arrival at the Port Mourant Hospital. Nine other passengers of the route 63 mini bus in which Boodhoo was travelling were also taken to the hospital. Of this number three were treated and sent away, three were referred to the New Amsterdam Hospital and three were referred to Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation; of the three referred to the GPHC one is listed as critical.

A police source told Stabroek News that the accident occurred at around 6:30pm when the bus which was travelling from Albion to Skeldon attempted to overtake a car. The bus clipped the other vehicle sending the car crashing into a parked lorry. The bus toppled several times. The source noted that the bus driver who was speeding at the time fled the scene after the accident.

No one from the car was injured.
