A teenager who was injured in an accident at Den Amstel Public Road, West Demerara on Saturday, remains hospitalised in a critical condition.

At the time of the accident, Shuayb Jahoor, 18, was travelling with four other persons. The car they were in collided with a concrete bridge then careened into a nearby trench.

According to the police, Marissa Lam, 22, of West Coast Demerara, was the driver of the car, HC 8954, with occupants Alana Boodhoo, 18, Nicholas Ramah, Ronela Balkarran and Jahoor.

The police said their investigations revealed that Lam lost control of the car while attempting to negotiate a turn on along the Den Amstel Public Road. The car eventually collided with a concrete bridge on the western side of the road, before running into a nearby trench.

The injured occupants were taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital, where they were treated before being sent away, with the exception of Jahoor, who was referred to the Georgetown Public Hospital.
