Providence woman dies after car crashes at McDoom

The Police say they are investigating a fatal accident which occurred last night at about 10.45 in the vicinity of the new Gafoor’s access road on Mc Doom Public Road, Georgetown, involving a motor car driven by a Guyana Defence Force rank, age 23, of Onderneeming, West Bank Demerara and two other occupants: Ameena Sooklall (now deceased), age 33 years of Providence, East Bank Demerara and Alston Edwards, age 26 years of Shopping Plaza, South Ruimveldt Gardens, Georgetown.

Enquiries disclosed that the driver of the motor car was proceeding north along the eastern drive lane of the western carriageway at a moderate speed when he suddenly felt drowsy, his eyes closed and he lost control of the vehicle and collided with the concrete median.

As a result of the collision, Sooklall passed away while the others were injured. The vehicle sustained major damage leaving the driver and both occupants injured.

The driver and the other occupant of the vehicle were  taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where they were both seen and examined by doctors on duty. Edwards was treated and sent away while the driver was treated and is currently a patient in the accident and emergency unit under observation.

The body of the deceased is presently lying at the Lyken Funeral home awaiting a post-mortem examination and the vehicle lodged at the station to be examined by a licensing and certifying officer.
