GuySuCo concerned about sabotage

The Guyana Sugar Corporation Inc (GuySuCo) yesterday charged that “some elements are influencing sections of our workforce to commit acts of sabotage on the Corporation’s property with the intention to interrupt the smooth flow of operations and destabilize the business”.

It did not elaborate on the types of sabotage.

The corporation’s charge comes amid rising tensions over imminent announcements on the restructuring of the beleaguered sugar industry. A major announcement is expected shortly and could come tomorrow as the budget debate is wrapped up in parliament.

In a statement yesterday, GuySuCo said it has zero tolerance for sabotage.

“With respect to employees, there will be no hesitation in addressing these matters in line with its policies, procedures and regulations; and the attention of the Guyana Police Force or appropriate authority will be engaged relative to any matter contrary to the Laws”, GuySuCo said.

It reminded employees that it is a part of their contractual obligation to care for, and protect the Corpora-tion’s property.

“GuySuCo provides them with a livelihood, as well as so many others in the society; therefore it is a highly irresponsible act for any employee to allow themselves to be persuaded to sabotage their place of employment and hinder its productivity.

“The Corporation hereby encourages all employees to continue to give of their best towards the successful completion of the Second Crop and to the re-organising of the business, so that it can become resilient and sustainable”, the corporation said.
