A Commission of Inquiry into the presence of an illegal aircraft found some weeks ago at an illegal airstrip near Yupukari Village, Central Rupununi, opened yesterday at the Indigenous Conference Hall, Amerindian Hostel, Lethem.
The lone Commissioner, Brigadier (rtd) Mr Edward Collins, got the proceedings underway after the opening formalities by Secretary to the Commission Ms Ashanti King were conducted.
First up to give evidence was Deputy Supt of Police Rudolph Banwarie, Commander of the Lethem Police Sub-Division, who spearheaded the investigations from this end.
The Commission will sit continually and is expected to submit a preliminary report on October 17. The final report will be presented on November 16.
