Win for Cool Runnings as Beach Football competition commences

Cool Runnings, Royal Youth, Sparta Boss and Silver Bullets secured opening day wins when the inaugural Guyana Beach Soccer Association (GBSA) National Championships commenced on Sunday at the Bayroc Beach Facility in Linden.

In the feature contest of the night, Cool Runnings dismantled Attention Family 10-3. Deon Charter bagged a helmet-trick in the win while Marmarlaque Davidson netted a hat-trick. Assisting with solo strikes were Keon Sears, Kennard Simon and Jermain Grandison respectively.

On target for Attention Family was Jamal Haynes, Hosea Waddell and Antwoine Gill. Meanwhile Royal Youth downed West Front Road-Gold is Money 4-1 compliments of a hat-trick from Allan Healy and a solo strike from Quacey Tavafa. Netting in the loss was Randolph Wagner  Sparta Boss downed Kuru-Kururu Warriors by a 3-1 score line. Roberto Osbourne bagged a brace in the win alongside a solo shot from Dennis Edwards. For the loser, Ryan Scott netted.  Silver Bullets riddled Alexander Village 6-1. Colwyn Drakes netted a hat-trick while Rawlston Fraser, Romel Matthews and Kellon Major netted individual efforts. Finding the back of the net in the defeat was Jermain Junior.

In the lone drawn encounter, Buxton Youth Developers and High Star battled to a 3-3 stalemate. For Buxton, Jermain Clarke, Kishawn McPherson and Joshua Douglas scored while Colwyn Davidson netted a brace for High Star alongside a Thaddeus DeFreitas effort.

Action in the event continues Sunday at the Kuru-Kururu Beach Facility. The championships will be contested in a two round format over an 18-day period. Matches will be played every Sunday at the Bayroc Community Centre Beach Soccer facility and at Kuru Kururu on the Linden Soesdyke Highway.

Winner of the event will receive the championship trophy and $250,000 while the second, third and fourth place units will collect the respective accolade and $100,000, $75,000 and $50,000 correspondingly. Other sponsors of the event include E-Networks and 104.3 FM (Linden).
