The body of a Bush Lot Farm, Corentyne, Berbice man has been found floating in a trench near his home and it is suspected that he drowned.

Dead is Heraganesh Permauloo, 61, of First Street, Bush Lot Farm, Corentyne, Berbice.

The Guyana Police Force (GPF) on Thursday said that Permauloo’s body was discovered by his brother, who is also his neighbour.

In a statement, the GPF said the man is suspected to have drowned sometime between 17:00 hrs on Wednesday and 07:15 hrs on Thursday.

The man’s brother went over to his home at about 07:15 hrs on Thursday to take breakfast for him as he would normally do. He told the police that when he arrived at his brother’s home, the man was not home. He then started making checks for Permauloo and subsequently he noticed the man’s body was floating in a nearby trench, face down and motionless.

The police were summoned and Permauloo was fished out of the trench. His body was physically examined for marks of violence but none were seen, the police reported. The body was escorted to the Port Mourant Public Hospital and Permauloo was officially declared dead. His body has since been transported to the Ramoo’s Funeral Home to await a post-mortem examination.

His brother, who found him, told this newspaper that the father of one lived alone and didn’t have problems with persons in the neighborhood. He said while his brother would consume alcohol, he didn’t cause any trouble as a result of it, which is why the family doesn’t suspect any foul play. Instead, the family suspects that Permauloo accidentally fell into the trench.
