Tug sinks after catching fire at Friendship wharf

A tug yesterday morning caught fire and later sank in the Demerara River while at Gopie Wharf, Friendship, East Bank Demerara.

The captain of the vessel, identified as Gafoor (only name given) was taken to the hospital for minor injuries.

A source told Stabroek News that around 7.30 am the vessel, Adam A burst into flames. The origin of the fire remains unknown.

The Guyana Fire Service fireboat, the “Protector,” was utilised to extinguish the flames.
