The Guyana Power and Light (GPL) Inc is continuing its campaign to bring defaulters on electricity payments to justice and recently won judgement in three cases brought before Commercial Court Judge BS Roy.
In GPL’s case against defendant Pamela Wiltshire of 312 East Street, Top Flat, Cummingsburg, judgement was granted in the sum of $196,762, with interest at a rate of 6% per annum from August 2 until November 29 and thereafter at a rate of 4% until payment.
In the company’s case against defendant Andrew Chow, of 331 Cummings Street, North Cummingsburg, Justice Roy granted judgement in favour of the plaintiff in the sum of $102,473, with interest at the rate of 6% per annum from August 2 until November 29 and thereafter at 4% until fully paid.
In the plaintiff’s case against defendant Isabella Gonsalves, of 137 Waterloo Street, Cummingsburg, Justice Roy granted judgment in the sum of $85,482 with interest at the rate of 6% per annum from August 2 until November 29 and thereafter at 4% until payment.
In all three cases the company said electricity was provided to the defendants up to May and on May 2 they were issued with bills for the respective sums owed and either failed or refused to pay.
None of the defendants appeared to answer to the charges.
