CWC LOC says Guyana will be represented at opening ceremony

The Guyana Local Organising Committee (LOC) has said that at no time did it share any information with the public or with the media stating that Guyana might not take part in the opening ceremony of the ICC CWC 2007 in Jamaica in March.

A release from the LOC said that the headline in the Guyana Chronicle stating that Guyana might not be taking part was very inconsistent with the contents of the article; it was misleading and it has sent the wrong signals to Guyanese.

The LOC said that the nine LOCs would be participating in the opening ceremony in some form or the other. Some of the host venues would be sending larger contingents than others depending on the level of funding available to support their delegation.

The release also said that the LOC indicated to the media that Guyana would be sending a delegation but its size was still to be determined and would be influenced by the time available during the two-hour ceremony scheduled for March 11.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Guyana LOC, Karan Singh, also pointed out to the Chronicle reporter that Guyana was geographically furthest from Jamaica and that this could influence the number of persons in the delegation.
