Businessman took four engines using invalid cheques – court told

A businessman who took four engines from another man by pretending that he had the money to pay for them, made an appearance yesterday in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

Conrad Wright, 47, of Ozama Street, North Ruimveldt was not required to plead to two charges of obtaining by false pretence and was released on $100,000 bail by Acting Chief Cecil Sullivan.

It is alleged that on September 8 last with intent to defraud, Wright obtained from Harry Narine two 55 horsepower Mariner engines valued $1.4M by falsely pretending that the Citizen’s Bank manager’s cheque for the said amount was genuine, knowing same to be false.

On September 20 last, it is alleged that he obtained two 40 horsepower Mariner engines valued $1.3M from Narine by falsely pretending that the Citizen’s Bank manager’s cheque for the said amount was genuine, knowing same to be false.

The matter will continue on March 14.
