Defending Mayor’s Cup Champions, Fruta Conquerors began their consecutive title hunt on Friday with an impressive 4-0 win over West Demerara’s Uitvlugt at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground.
Delon Williams (15th and 77th) led from the front with a double for Conquerors after following up on goals from Quacy John in the 10th minute and Delon Harry in the 70th minute respectively.
In the first match, Jevon Lindie (32nd) and Devon Forde (56th) ensured a 2-0 win for Camptown at the same venue. The city side played Pouderoyen in the first match of the 2007 instalment of the annual tournament.
Both Conquerors and Camptown advanced to the quarter-final stage of the tournament with their respective wins.
