Homeless man on larceny charge said he found bag in cemetery

A homeless man who allegedly stole a man’s leather bag containing a quantity of local and foreign currency, a bankcard and other articles was remanded to prison by Acting Chief Magistrate Cecil Sullivan.

Samuel Goodridge, 31, of no fixed place of abode pleaded not guilty to the simple larceny charge when he appeared in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

It is alleged that on Wednesday, Goodridge stole from Devon Roberts one leather bag containing $8,000 cash, US$1,001 which is equivalent to $220,000 local currency, 33 pairs of drum sticks valued $60,000, a DVD player and a Scotiabank credit card.

Goodridge before pleading told the magistrate that he found the bag in the cemetery.

“I find de bag in the burying ground. It been throw in a corner. I ain’t tek no bag from them.”

He will return to Court Three on March 8.
