Owing to the prolonged dry spell, the Lamaha Canal at Shelter Belt, Vlissengen Road and Church Street, is at a significantly low level, and the Guyana Water Inc. is advising its customers within Georgetown to conserve water.
The canal usually operates at a level of 53 feet but this is now at 49 feet, the water company stated in a press release yesterday. Therefore, GWI said, all customers should conserve on use of water.
Persons should utilize water for domestic and hygiene purposes only (cooking, bathing, brushing of teeth, etc.) and avoid any unnecessary activities involving use of water such as bathing pets, washing concrete surfaces and cars, GWI said.
The company urged customers to be “Water Wise” during this prolonged dry spell and suggested that persons use a broom or a brush to clean concrete surfaces instead of water. The release added that more tips are available online at www.gwiguyana.com
