Missing school money probe stalled

Councillor of the Region Two Regional Democratic Council (RDC) Pooran Persaud has called for the investigation into the money missing from the Anna Regina Multilateral School safe to be expedited.

Persaud who heads the RDC Sub-committee on Hinterland Affairs and Cooperatives said a large portion of the estimated $4.5 million that went missing belonged to the school’s cooperative society.

Persaud said students who have completed their studies at the institution are still awaiting the payment of their savings and the police are doing nothing.

PNCR-IG Councillor Marva Bowen told the gathering that the school should replace the students’ savings while the investigation is continuing.

Meanwhile, RDC Clerk Sewanand Meusai has reported that Cabinet has given the approval for all RDC councillors to receive a stipend of $10,000 per month. Meusai told councillors that Cabinet has doubled their stipend, which was previously $5,000 per month.
