PNCR-1G urges Guyanese to struggle for necessary changes

The PNCR-1G is calling on all Guyanese to reflect on the road that the country has travelled thus far, note the successes and failures, and resolve to struggle for those necessary changes. The party, in a statement on the occasion of the 37th Republic anniversary, said that genuine independence is only achieved when Guyanese could recognize that ultimately success as a nation depends on working together, playing together, and utilizing all skills to take Guyana forward.

“While we celebrate our anniversary we must nevertheless be on guard as we deal with bureaucratic insensitivity, political arrogance and a rapidly growing disrespect for law, order and constitutionality as we come face to face with the return of polecat intolerance for criticism and disregard for the freedom of the press,” the statement said.

The party urged the renewal of the determination to fight corruption and bureaucratic lawlessness in high places.

In the statement it said too that Guyana remains a poor country, stagnated under uninspired leadership and unimaginative economic policies and a level of unemployment, despair in many communities and a level of poverty and deprivation, exclusion and discrimination which gives no comfort.

“The Republic will only be secure as we make inroads into these and other pressing issues,” the party declared.

The party will hold its family fun day tomorrow on the lawns of its headquarters at Congress Place and a “Soca Last Lap” competition is also slated for Sunday at the same venue as part of its 37th republic anniversary observances. This year, however, the PNCR-1G will not participate in the float parade.
