Youth gets 18 months for break-in

A teenaged boy who broke into a woman’s home and stole her Digicel bag and other items will now spend 18 months in prison after he was sentenced yesterday by Acting Chief Magistrate Cecil Sullivan.

Richard Narine, 18, of Railway Embankment pleaded guilty to break and enter and larceny at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

It is alleged that on February 20 at Georgetown he broke and entered the dwelling house of Doreen Singh and stole two silver rings, one ladies bag and a Digicel bag, all to the value of $2,300. Police prosecutor Sherwin Matthews who read the facts of the case stated that Singh had secured her home and went to the Bourda market to conduct business. Police from the Brickdam Station who responded to the report of break and enter saw Narine at the scene acting in a suspicious manner. He was searched and the items were recovered in his possession.

Narine told the court that he had the items in the Digicel bag on his shoulder.
