GFC’s U-20 team loses 0-1

The Rainbow Football Club of Mahdia (RFC) defeated Georgetown Football Club’s (GFC) Under-20 team 1-0 in a friendly game played at the Mahdia play field on Saturday.

Quick passing and energetic running by both teams in the opening minutes created much excitement for the over 200 fans at the playfield ground. In cool conditions many goal scoring opportunities were missed by both teams.

The winning goal came five minutes after the resumption when GFC’s custodian failed to hold onto an attempt on goal and Nigel Ernest accepted the gift presented to boot home sending the fans into celebration.

The match was hosted by ‘I’ Movement Promotion (IMP), a young organization that aims at promoting health and wellness through sport and social interaction in the hinterland communities.

Organizer of the match, I Salam of IMP has promised many more football matches for Mahdia as he seeks to develop the standard of the sport in the interior community.

Meanwhile, IMP also staged a double-header at the Bartica Community Centre Ground recently where Bartica Masters defeated their counterparts 2-0 with goals from Emlak Lynch and William Neblett while the Georgetown ladies scored a 1-0 win over Bartica, compliments of Alicia Wilson’s conversion.

The two female sides will meet again on March 4 in a long awaited over-40 grudge match “Rasta vs. Bald heads”.

According to I Salam, the fine-tuning of plans for the double header are in its final stages and fans are in for a special treat as efforts are being made to bring out past outstanding Caribbean Footballers for the double header event.
