Multimillion$ fraud uncovered at Clico

A multi-million dollar fraud has been discovered at Clico Life Insurance Company; the police have been called in and a number of employees detained.

Sources told this newspaper that staff members remained in police custody up to yesterday and some have also sought flight out of the country.

Contacted, Chief Executive Officer Geeta Singh said she preferred not to divulge any details on the matter since it was currently receiving the attention of the police.

However, she admitted that the company had identified, through its own existing control systems, some transactions that were not normal to the course of business.

She confirmed too that a few of the company’s employees were detained for questioning, but said she was not sure how many.

Meanwhile, a police source confirmed too that the police were called in after the company made the discovery and said employees, both male and female, were being held for questioning.

That source also said that unconfirmed reports had revealed that some $6 million in false transactions was apparently split up among the employees involved.

The police are continuing their investigations.
