Plaisance residents want damaged bridge fixed

Residents of Plaisance, East Coast Demerara, are calling on the authorities to have urgent repairs done to a damaged bridge on the Railway Embankment as they fear a serious accident may occur on the bridge.

Stabroek News visited the area last evening and observed that a part of the bridge is elevated, leaving a huge hole in the bridge. There is also damage to another part of the bridge. Residents as a precaution placed two white chairs on the bridge to alert drivers to the impending danger. However, they fear that may not be enough. They said that part of the bridge had been deteriorating for some time now and residents had initially placed a stick with red flags on it there to warn motorists. However, over the weekend the problem worsened forcing them to place chairs there. They are hoping that the authorities would look into the problem immediately.
