Driver granted bail over alleged equipment theft

A 29-year-old driver accused of stealing a quantity of items worth over $200,000 was released on bail when he appeared at the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

Leon Rayon Nurse of 114 Bagotville, West Bank Demerara (WBD) pleaded not guilty to a charge of simple larceny and was set free on $25,000 bail by Magistrate Fazil Azeez.

It is alleged that between February 15 and 16 February at Bagotville, WBD, Nurse stole a 500 watts Legacy amplifier, a 1000 watts American Pro amplifier, a portable Coby DVD player, two ten-inch Audiopipe speakers, two 12-inch Kenwood speakers, two white horns, two tweeters, one Pro amplifier, ten jack plugs and a Panasonic DVD deck all worth $270,000 the property of Matrick Lewis.

Attorney-at-law Subash Ganesh entered an appearance for Nurse. He said the court should use its discretion as to whether bail should be granted.

Police Prosecutor Ramsahoye Rambajue informed the court that one of the amplifiers was recovered from someone who said that Nurse had given it to him to keep. Nurse denied that he had given anyone an amplifier to keep.

Bail was granted in the sum of $25,000 and Nurse was ordered to return to court on March 26 at the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrate’s Court.
