Castrol inter-county under-15 two-day final

Demerara will attempt to dethrone defending cha-mpions Berbice in the rubber match of the Cas-trol inter-county under- 15 two-day cricket competition at the Police Sports Complex today.

After both teams made light work of Essequibo, recording outright wins over their hapless opponent in the first two rounds, it is time to get down to business.

Demerara coach, Bharatt Mangru, brings a well balanced team led by all-rounder Carlos La Rose. Openers Shameer Fazal and Shane Seebaran will be supported by Delon Fernandes, Kevin Singh and Dayanand Roopnarine. They will have to contend first with the pace of Kerron Joseph who will probably be supported by the lanky Rawn Johnson.

Berbice turned to their spin attack early in both innings against Essequibo. Left-arm spinners Trinson Carmichael and Gudakesh Moti combined with off-spinner Joemall LaFleur to have the Cinderella County lads in all kinds of trouble.

However, the question which will be answered during the course of the match is whether the Demerara batsmen will have the courage to use their feet or will they allow the bowlers to get on top?

Harrinarine Chattergoon leads an equally balanced Berbice team boasting a formidable top-order batting line-up of LaFleur, Travis Karim and Imran Latif.

They will come up against the pace of Seon Daniels and medium pacer Azad Mohammed, but the strength of the Demerara bowling is also spin.

Off-spinners Jagdesh Bishun and Ricardo Devers, son of former Guyana U-19 player Sean Devers will partner leg-spinner Amir Khan with the hopes of dismantling the Berbice batting line up.

With both teams tied with one win each, the final could be a first innings issue, but this competition is not only about winning and losing as the team to represent Guyana at the upcoming regional under-15 competition will be selected from this tournament.
