The Guyana Amateur Weightlifting Assoc-iation (GAWA) will commence their season with a National Novices Championship on March 25 at Blue Note Club.
It will be GAWA’s first national championship for the year and it is aimed at attracting weightlifters from Georgetown, Berbice and West Coast to compete in the various categories.
GAWA General Secretary Deion Nurse told Stabroek Sport that the championship serves as an encouragement to other individual weightlifters who have been training.
“The novices championship will give weightlifters that have been training an opportunity to compete and it also serves to bring out new blood,” Nurse said.
Categories will range from the junior under-20 and open men’s and women’s events. Medals will be awarded to first, second and third place winners.
