Wife charged with murder of Zeelugt fisherman

The reputed wife of a fisherman who was discovered dead on his kitchen floor was yesterday charged with his murder and refused bail by Acting Chief Magistrate Cecil Sullivan.

Farida Baksh, 30, of 578 Zeelugt, East Bank Essequibo (EBE) was not required to plead to the capital offence at the George-town Magistrate’s Court.

It is alleged that on March 6 at Zeelugt, EBE she murdered Seelall Jitlall, her husband. It was reported that on Tuesday the body of Jitlall was discovered by his son on his kitchen floor with a stab wound to his upper chest.

A bloodied knife was found near to his corpse. The police were reportedly told conflicting stories by Baksh and her relatives and they arrested her.

Baksh was remanded and her case was transferred to the Leonora Magistrate’s Court for April 17.
