I agree that more investigative journalism is needed

Dear Editor,

I was looking at the news on television and I heard the president refer to members of the media as being lazy and taking what people tell them as gospel.

I have to agree with him 100%. Yes, some members of the media are indeed lazy. They fail to do investigative work and to expose the ills that threaten the Guyanese people.

What we need in Guyana are investigative journalists. The aggressive type that will follow up on an issue and pursue it to all quarters, even if it means stepping on some privileged toes in the process.

Far too often a piece of news is featured and there is no follow up article on it. We the Guyanese people, the ones that are tax and vat payers, are left groping in the dark as to what was the final outcome. We want to know what process was used for the purchasing of the BMW’s, we want to know the secrecy behind the casino deal. There are far too many articles that have no conclusion. No stone must be left unturned in exposing the truth.

Yours faithfully,

K.Persaud
