Culture for World Cup at Umana Yana

The Umana Yana is going to be lit up with the aroma, colour and splendour of Guyanese foods and cultural offerings during the period of the local leg of the ICC Cricket World Cup courtesy of Cacique Promotions.

This promotional group, put together by Carol Bagot in 2004, would be hosting a series of events at the locale from March 30 to April 7. Bagot, an experienced caterer who in the line of her professional work has hosted events with as much as 5,000 patrons, told The Scene that it is the group’s effort to provide entertainment for the CWC games.

The opening night features an ‘Evening of Cultural Extravaganza’ set to be staged at the National Cultural Centre featuring the National School of Dance. It starts at 7.30 pm and ends at 9 pm when an International Bar opens at the Umana Yana. A show to launch the Guyana Fashion Expo takes off on the next night. On display would be designs from Roger Gary, Facts and Roses and other local designers. Top local and New York-based models are expected to be a part of that event as well.

Sunday would erupt with the sounds of ‘Jazz at the Benab’ and a delicious buffet-styled meal that is available on every night of the promotional effort designed to encourage positive energy among Guyana’s visitors at that time. The following Sunday would see Cacique offering patrons a brunch for their relaxation and social enhancement. The final event to bring the curtains down is a Guyana Night that seeks to provide a wider array of sumptuous local dishes.
