Guyanese woman dies in Queens after throat slit

A 21-year-old US-based Guyanese died hours after her throat was slit as she stepped out of her New York apartment early Thursday morning.

Natasha Ramen nee Khani of Hollis, Queens, New York and formerly of Grove, East Bank Demerara, died at around 11.30 on Thursday night relatives in Guyana said.

According to the relatives, the woman had just stepped out of her apartment when someone grabbed her from behind and slit her throat. She was picked up and rushed to the hospital but died hours after.

The relatives in Guyana said that they have no clue who killed the young woman or who would have wanted her dead. They said she left Guyana when she was 15 and had been living with her grandmother until she got married in 2005.

Since she left Guyana, the young woman has never returned. The relatives said that they are depending on the few phone calls they are receiving for any update on the young woman’s tragic death.
