City water supply disrupted

Water supply in the city has been disrupted owing to a Guyana Power & Light (GPL) failure, which is affecting the Guyana Water Inc (GWI) Vlissengen Road and Church Street plant (Shelter Belt).

According to a release from GWI, teams from the water company and GPL are working to restore the supply with the least inconvenience to customers.

The release said all customers served by the Turkeyen well (including the University of Guyana) are also experiencing a disruption owing to an internal malfunction.

Customers who have queries are asked to make contact on 227-8701 Monday to Thursday between 8 am and 4.30 pm and between 8 am and 3.30 pm on Fridays. They can also visit GWI’s website www.gwiguyana.com.

This latest GPL failure comes in the wake of another power failure last week, which saw customers in the Demerara area being without electricity for hours. It is a worrying sign with Guyana’s leg of the Cricket World Cup, especially with water supply also being disrupted.
