Ministry advises spectators to avoid dehydration

The Ministry of Health is advising persons attending the Cricket World Cup (CWC) matches to drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration.

The ministry, in a press release, said spectators should buy “sealed bottle water, carbonated or canned beverages such as soft drinks and fruit juices” to stave off dehydration. The ministry said spectators should ensure that they have taken at least 250-500ml of fluids every two hours as while in the sun their bodies are subject to water loss. “If you plan to stay at the stadium for between 8-10 hours a total of 2 litres of fluids would be needed by each individual” the release said.

The ministry also advises spectators that when purchasing ice they should ensure that the vendors have kept it in a covered container and that it is dispensed with scoops or thongs. It also advises persons to “avoid drinking excessive alcohol while in the sun” since it can lead to dehydration.
