GT&T worker mistakenly shot as police pursue prisoner

Police in hot pursuit of a prisoner who escaped from the Sparendaam lock-ups yesterday mistakenly shot a Guyana Telephone and Telegraph labourer under his chin.

Tarvin Robertson of 61 Company Road, Buxton was putting up a ladder against a pole when he was grazed under his chin by a bullet from a policeman’s gun.

Public Relations Officer of GT&T Allison Parker told Stabroek News that Robertson was part of a team doing work in the Sparendaam area. Sources at the Georgetown Hospital said that Robertson was treated at the institution and sent away. Parker said that the company was following up the matter.
