The two suspects who were detained by police in relation to the deadly attack on an MMC vehicle at the Sheribana Bridge on Monday last have been released from police custody.

The one man one who hails from Wismar, Linden and the other who hails from Buxton were released late yesterday afternoon after being detained for questioning for two days.

Two MMC guards Warren Hutson and Rodwell Clarke were killed and two others, Glenmore Reeves and Dalton Walcott were injured during the attack.

According to a police source the investigations are still ongoing as they try to locate persons whose names were given to them. However up to late last evening a source confirmed that no other new suspects were taken into custody.

Meantime investigators say they are still awaiting the ballistics results from the police crime lab to confirm whether the shells retrieved from the crime scene were indeed fired from AK-47 rifles.

A post-mortem is expected to be performed on the body of one of the slain security men, Rodwell Clarke sometime today.

A post-mortem was performed on the other slain security guard Warren Huston on Wednesday.

Hutson’s mother, Sharon Hutson said her son’s remains will be buried on Monday, while Clarke’s funeral will be held next Wednesday.

Around noon on Monday, a MMC 4×4 vehicle which was escorting cash to the city was attacked by the gunmen at a ditch on the road. MMC Chief Executive Officer Carl Morgan had told Stabroek News that the MMC constables had just uplifted canisters with cash from the company’s ferry location when the incident occurred.

The gunmen made off with four shotguns and in excess of $2M.
