No garbage dumped on graves

Dear Editor,

In an article appearing in Kaieteur News dated September 18th, 2007 by one Mr. Faizal Bedessie Deroop, captioned “An update on the happening in Berbice” he quoted Dr. Ramayya reporting the immense garbage at Whim Village on the Corentyne, which is being dumped on the graves in the burial ground.

Mr. Editor this report is not accurate. The burial ground is situate at the northern end of the village and from time to time the residents in that area would dump their garbage on the perimeter of the burial ground, despite notices to desist from such practice.

Recently the NDC had to clear some of the garbage thrown there. No garbage was actually thrown over the graves. This practice has been going on for some times, but the NDC has been unable to identify the perpetrators because no one would give the NDC the name of persons who are guilty of this act. The NDC operates a garbage cleaning exercise. The report as I see it seeks to malign the NDC and by extension the Regional Administration.

Yours faithfully,

G. Sukhu – Chairman
