Linden needs an association to lay down rules for public transportation

Dear Editor,

I express profound condolences to the bereaved families, relatives, and friends and to the entire community of Linden, for the unfathomable loss of life as a result of that dreadful accident of October 10. My wife and I have been affected beyond measure.

Let us resuscitate a carefully crafted Public Transportation Association in Linden/ Region 10, with input, backing and firm oversight from the municipal and regional legislature and administration, civil/civic society including ordinary commuters, and indeed from transportation providers and drivers themselves.

Such an association should be governed by rules and regulations of a ‘sanctionable’ nature that address standard operational procedures; codes of conduct; driver fatigue vis-a-vis man-hour ceilings; legal and road safety compliance; skill development and evolution; customer/commuter relations; monitoring and evaluation; standards and certification; mentoring, education and public awareness, among other considerations.

An endorsed, vibrant association with a centrally located operating office and capacity for monitoring, data recording and analysis, could be most effective in stemming the flow of lawlessness and reckless endangerment.

I call on my friends and colleagues Joe Chapman, Cathy Wilson, Leon Roberts and Frank Fyffe to examine this and other suggestions for full ventilation. I call on Colin Bully, Royo Telford, Percy, Sacks and colleagues, Gary Elliot, Jafar and retired Yangapatty, to get involved. And finally, I call on Councillors Morian, Adams-Sharp, Forsyte and Apple; Pastors Adams, Bakker, McKinnon, Sills, Claxton and Bowman; people of Mackenzie, Wismar and Christianburg, to exert maximum influence for real and urgent solutions.

We stand willing and ready to support the establishment of such an association, or any other remedial interventions for that matter.

Yours faithfully,

Dario ‘roving dax’ Mcklmon
