Man on life support after cutlass attack in rum shop

A Better Hope man who was chopped several times and then hit with pool balls and a brick on Wednesday at a rum shop in Montrose, East Coast Demerara is clinging to life at the Georgetown Public Hospital.

Robin Dundun of Lot 9 Better Hope, ECD, is on life support in the Intensive Care Unit and has not regained consciousness since the incident. He sustained massive head injuries and other wounds about the body.

Reports reaching Stabroek News are that around 3:30 pm on Wednesday, Dundun was in a rum shop when he had an argument with other persons there. During the argument he was chopped about the body with a cutlass. He was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital in an unconscious state and bleeding profusely from his wounds.

Yesterday midday many persons known to him were at the hospital. This newspaper was told that the man went to the shop to hang out with his friends when the argument started.

At the time of the incident, Dundun was not intoxicated but it is believed that his attackers were. This newspaper was informed that pool balls were placed in cloth and Dundun was repeatedly hit with it. A big brick was also thrown at him.

One of the injured man’s closest friends told this newspaper that he is concerned about that particular area because of the illegal activities that go on there. He said that there is gambling and selling of drugs at the spot but nothing is being done about it.
