Lumumba, driver stable in HDU

Presidential Adviser on Empowerment Odinga Lumumba and his driver Trevor Hollingsworth yesterday remained patients of the High Dependency Unit of the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH), where they had been admitted following a crash at Hope, East Coast Demerara on Saturday evening.

Hospital sources said that both men are in a stable condition with Hollingsworth suffering a fractured neck and Lumumba a broken arm and fractured leg.

They also suffered lacerations to various parts of the body. The men were yesterday taken to the St Joseph’s Mercy Hospital to have CT scans done.

The crash on Saturday occurred at just about 6.15 in the evening and according to reports, Lumumba’s vehicle was far ahead of a fleet returning to the city following a Cabinet Outreach in Berbice.

It was at a deep turn approaching Hope that the driver hit a culvert which catapulted the car into a drain.

Stabroek News was told that Sports, Youth and Culture Minister, Dr Frank Anthony and his driver spotted the vehicle which was severely damaged and went to the victims’ rescue.

They were rushed to the GPH where they were treated and admitted.
