My meaning was changed

Dear Editor,

In my letter captioned, “African Guyanese leaders must be much more development oriented” (07.11.20), I had written that “Not even those who are critical to the PPP’s government and political arrangements are grounding and grooming their communities developmentally”. That was edited to read “Not even those who are critical of the PPP’s government and political arrangements are grounding and grooming their communities developmentally.” These statements carry two different meanings. Critical in my context of usage means “crucial or essential.” Thus I am referring to those Afro Guyanese within the PPP who have aesthetic and or substantive value to the PPP. However, a more appropriate statement should be that:

“Not even those who are critical to, or of, the PPP’s government and political arrangements are grounding and grooming their communities developmentally.”

Yours faithfully,

Lin-Jay Harry-Voglezon
