Mocha fisherman dies after suspected hit and run

The body of a 32-year-old fisherman was yesterday morning discovered lying on the Wales, West Bank Demerara Public Road and it is suspected that he was the victim of a hit-and-run accident.

Dead is Miguel Thomas of 350 Cemetery Road, Mocha Arcadia, East Bank Dem-erara. According to reports, his body was discovered by residents lying on the Wales Public Road at about 5 am yesterday. They called the police, who transported the body to the West Demerara Regional Hospital.

His brother, Anthony told Stabroek News yesterday that Miguel had gone to visit their sister, Allison Sparman at Patentia, which is the village next to Wales on Saturday. A grieving Sparman told this newspaper that her brother left her home at 6.30 pm on Saturday to go to a barbeque being held at Sisters Village. It was while he was reportedly returning home that the accident occurred.

Sparman recounted that she received a call from another relative shortly before 7 am yesterday, when she was told that the body of someone had been found on the road who was wearing the same clothes that Miguel had been wearing when he left the home. “
