‘Wicked Lane’ accused of three gun offences in Cuyuni

A Plaisance man appeared in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court accused of three gun offences, which he allegedly committed in the Cuyuni River and his accomplice in two of the matters is yet to be arrested.

Kurt Pompey, called ‘Wicked Lane’, of Plaisance Squatting area, East Coast Demerara was not required to plead to the indictable charges of discharging a loaded firearm, robbery with violence and robbery under arms.

John Philander of Buxton who is charged jointly with Pompey with the two gun crimes has not yet been captured by the police.

It is alleged that on October 28 at Cuyuni River Pompey discharged a loaded firearm at Joao D’Oliviera with intent to maim, disfigure or cause grievous bodily harm.

On the said day at the same place, he and Philander robbed Anthony Melville of $6,000 and $100,000 in Venezuelan currency and immediately before, during or after used personal violence.

Additionally the duo allegedly robbed D’Oliviera of 15 ounces of raw gold.

Attorney-at-law Joseph Harmon who entered an appearance for Pompey told the court that his client, who is the father of five, is the owner of the shop where the alleged incidents took place.

Police prosecutor Shellon Daniels said the duo fled the scene after the incident but Pompey was arrested in Georgetown. She said too that he has other matters before the court.

The matter was adjourned to December 17 at the Kamarang Magistrate’s Court.
