Lions roar versus Jets as ICL league takes off

The Indian Cricket League (ICL) had the money, players and resources to put together a brand new cricketing show. What they would have been anxiously looking forward to, however, was the public’s response to their product.

They would, however, hit the bed with a big smile of relief and satisfaction as a nearly-packed house turned up to see Chandigarh Lions beat Delhi Jets by eight runs in the inaugural match yesterday. But before it was time to set the ball rolling, the spectators swayed to the enthralling performance by cine star Kareena Kapoor.

And just as the ICL got off to a cracking start, so did the Lions, who were put in to bat.

Imran Farhat and Hamish Marshall were quickly off the blocks adding 40 in just four overs when JP Yadav removed Marshall (23), followed by Farhat (21) soon after. In walked Lions skipper Chris Cairns. He hammered one straight into the stands the moment he stepped in, and the other went sailing out of the stadium over mid-wicket, leaving the crowd swaying to the loud music. (Hindustantimes.com)
