Herstelling woman critical after burns

A Herstelling resident is fighting for her life in the Burn Care Unit of the Georgetown Public Hospi-tal Corporation after reportedly setting herself afire following a dispute with her husband.

According to information reaching this newspaper the woman, Davika Permanent of 140 Second Street, Herstelling, East Bank Demerara, was rushed to the hospital at around 1 am yesterday suffering from first and second degree burns to her body.

Meanwhile, a 40-year-old man who was robbed by two men who stripped him of his clothing and gave him a severe thrashing is also a patient at the hospital. It is understood that the man, Mark Deoraj of Good Fortuin, West Bank Demerara, was robbed at the corner of Camp Street and North Road sometime on Saturday night as he was making his way home. Stabroek News understands that the man was badly beaten and to escape his attackers he was forced to jump into the trench. He arrived at the hospital dressed only in his underpants. He told officials that he was on his way home when he was attacked by the two men who took everything including his shoes and the clothing he was wearing at the time. He was treated and later admitted to the institution.

And a 20-year-old Kitty resident is nursing eight stab wounds to his body after he was assaulted by two men with whom he had an argument. Reports are that Ramacindo Perez of 82 William Street, Kitty, was rushed to the hospital at around 2:30 am yesterday morning nursing the stab wounds. He told hospital officials that he was on the railway embankment liming when he got into an argument with two men and was later attacked with a knife. Stabroek News understands that none of the wounds is life threatening and the man was admitted to Ward B2 of the hospital.
