Water restored at Bare Root

Seven standpipes were recently installed at Bare Root to remedy the water shortage in the area while leaks are being repaired.

According to a Government Information Agency (GINA) press release the situation was remedied in the East Coast Demerara community after an intervention by housing and water minister Harry Narine Nawbatt, human services minister Priya Manickchand and minister within the health ministry, Dr Bheri Ramsaran.

The ministers visited the community on November 29 and the pipes were installed shortly after.

Managing Director at the Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI), Karan Singh, said GWI has finished negotiations to reconstruct that water system at Bare Root and works are expected to start before year end.

He also said that the company is working in many areas to repair leaks that may have been caused by road works, especially in areas such as Sophia A, B and C fields where residents are experiencing reduced water supply.
