Theft of utility cables continues

Dear Editor,

Telephone cable that was severed and stolen, was left partially completed. The next day, the cable replaced was gone.

Why no guard or “watchman with a cell phone” to watch the work site. Who is buying stolen cables etc?. Why no heavy penalties and jail time for sellers and buyers of stolen materials that impact on the public safety? Why no joint effort to target both sides of crimes against public utilities?

I simply do not believe, in spite of some recent successes, that the Government/GDF have learnt how to make the most of what is available to fight crime. The problem is not enough quality or cash to work with.

Yours faithfully,
