Exercise moderation during the festive season – CCWU

The Clerical and Commercial Workers Union (CCWU) said Christmas is not only a time for merriment but for reflection on the birth of Christ.

In a press release the CCWU said as a trade union which enjoys a close relationship with its members, leaders must at all times create an environment of peace and joy. In keeping with traditions, it said, citizens seek more money during this season to “give ourselves some of the things we denied ourselves all year through. We see this time as a time to rid ourselves of stress in a most lavish way but this time around we have to contend with VAT and getaway prices.” However, it cautions consumers, “Let moderation be our watchword.”

The CCWU also said it noticed “a high degree of heartlessness characterizing the attitude of some employers and their agents. Some problems have arisen and we find that we are not treated with respect as we strive to resolve them.”

The union said some employers have consciously avoided meeting with it to resolve the problems but it will persistently pursue all efforts to do so.
