Stolen car found torched at Mocha

A businessman is counting his losses after persons unknown stole his car worth $4.5 million and set it alight at Mocha Arcadia.

The AT 192 grey pearl Carina, PJJ 6666, with ‘Shalom’ written on it, was parked on the road near an old sawmill at Good Intent while the owner went to a wake.

Hassan Inshan, a businessman of Good Intent, West Bank Demerara, the owner of the car told this newspaper that he went to a wake at his brother-in-law’s residence only to return to find his vehicle missing.

Inshan recalled that he left his home after 7 pm on Sunday to attend the wake and when he parked his car some 150 metres away from the “wake house”, he locked it and put on the alarm. At 9.30 pm, when he returned to take his father and two sisters home his car was nowhere to be found. The only thing that he found at the scene was a fuse from his car alarm.

Overcome with emotion, he said he immediately made a report at the Wales Police Station, after which he went in search of his vehicle but came up empty handed. He returned to the station yesterday morning to make a statement and was on his way to continue his search when he received a call from a friend who told him that he saw a car burning in Mocha the night before.

When he arrived in Mocha with the police he found his car completely burnt.

Inshan said his car was his prized possession and he cherished his car just after his family. He recalled that in 2005 his car won the top prize at the Car and Bike shows in Georgetown and in Berbice for his music system. The music system and other equipment which he bought for the car, he said, were what increased its value, since the car itself cost $1.8 million. He also recently bought new rims for his vehicle and had the interior redone. He believes that the person or persons who stole his car were after his music system and said he would have felt better if they had taken the car and left his system.

The police are continuing their investigations.
