Boxing Board of Control to elect new president at AGM tomorrow

A new president of the Guyana Boxing Board of Control (GBBC) will be elected tomorrow when that body holds its Annual General Meeting at the Lions Den, Bel Air Park, beginning at 10am.

According to GBBC’s General Secretary Trevor Arno, KD Persaud who served as president for the past eight years resigned the position since October last year and has since migrated to Canada.

Arno, a long-serving member of the Board, said Persaud who was an executive of Banks DIH, has been a member of the GBBC for 10 years but served as president since 1998.

He said vice president Mohan Persaud was currently holding the fort, and was one of the persons likely to be elected to the post of president. He could not say who the other likely candidates were.

Arno, a qualified judge, was not in a position to say what the GBBC plans for 2007 are, but ventured to state that to date the board had received letters of intent from two promotion groups to stage professional cards very early in the year.

He said Gary St. Clair in collaboration with Jimmy Ramnarine planned on staging a card on March 31 that would feature St. Clair against a top ranked fighter from Argentina and four other bouts, while McNeil Promotions that is headed by politician Odinga Lumumba planned to stage a card one week later. That card, Arno said would feature Andrew `Six Head’ Lewis and `Deadly’ Denny Dalton in a Lewis versus Dalton Part 3 affair.

Arno said St. Clair had called him from his base in Australia about five days ago and stated that all plans are on stream for the March 31 card. (Michael DaSilva)
