Sport Letter

Dear Editor,

Why is the Kashif and Shanghai Organis- ation crying foul now that they may not be able to host their annual football competition this year?

For years this organisation has been raking in millions of dollars. Haven’t they put up a penny for rainy days such as these?

No one knows for sure how much money these guys have made from football and instead of providing a financial statement they forever opt for paying a $50,000 fine.

Your reporter Duane Fowler wrote in an article last month that Frank `English’ Parris was a hustler who just wanted to take from football. Well, if Parris is a hustler then so too is the Kashif and Shanghai Organ-sation.

What have they done for football? Every day they can be seen in the papers collecting sponsorship for their tournament. Everything is sponsored.

But now, because two of their main sponsors, Dream-works, and Farouk Razac (of Swiss House) are no more, they want to whip up a public relations campaign against VAT, the GFF and the government of Guyana.

Two years ago Austin `Jack’ Warner began pumping money into the competition. He gave one million dollars to the organization.

That means one more sponsor, yet the prize money given to teams remains unmoved.

The GFF and government must demand that the Kashif and Shanghai Organisation reveal just how much they have been making before any move is made (if any) to assist.

And after holding talks with the Kashif and Shanghai Organis-ation, government and the Guyana Football Feder-ation (GFF) must make sure that justice is not only done, but also appear to be done. It is time for Kashif and Shanghai to come straight for the good of the game.

Yours faithfully,

Mark Arthur
