‘Fishy’ Williams wins 35-lap feature

Marlon `Fishy’ Williams returned one hour, 25 minutes, 35 seconds in winning the feature 35-lap event of the Ricks and Sari Agro Industries sponsored 11-race cycle programme at the National Park on Saturday.

Second position was occupied by John Charles, who according to reports, held a sizeable lead over the pack until he was caught by Williams and the eventual third place finisher Shane Boodhram with 12 laps remaining.

Charles won seven of the eight prime prizes that were up for grabs while Williams claimed the other.

Christopher Holder, Sherwin Osbourne and Jaikarran Sukhai placed fourth, fifth and sixth respectively.

In other results from the day’s programme, Geron Williams won the juveniles 10-lap event from Holder and Danny Ramchurjee respectively, while Kester Croal won the five-lap race for upright cyclists. Christopher David was second and Shawn Frank third.

The veterans under-45 years five-lap race was won by Andy Spencer, while Kennard Lovell placed second. Compton Persaud, Ben Yhap and Clement Douglas occupied the top three positions in the veterans over-45 years of age five-lap race.

The 12-14 boys three-lap race was won by Neil Reece. Jonathan Fagundes who won the BMX boys three-lapper was second.

Asif Shaw and Jamal Heywood placed second and third respectively to Fagundes.

Anthony Freeman won the BMX boys open three-lap event from Teon Joseph and Matthew Vanveen placed second and third respectively.

Freeman also won the BMX boys 9-12 three-lap race. This time however, Vanveen edged Joseph for second.

Rawle McLean edged out his sibling Kareem to take the one-lap event for BMX boys 6-9 years old and Jesus Davis finished third. And lone female Ashley Anthony took the BMX girls 6-12 years one-lap affair.

The presentation of prizes to the respective winners was done by the sons of the late Managing Director of Ricks and Sari and former president of the Guyana Cycling Federation, Regan Rodrigues, Regan Jr. and Carlos.

Hampers with Ricks and Sari products were distributed.

Anthony Freeman Sr. also distributed cycle spares to five BMX cyclists as an encouragement for them to continue in the sport.
