$107M Vreed-en-Hoop/La Jalousie Road commissioned

The $107M Vreed-en-Hoop/La Jalousie Road was commissioned yesterday and Agriculture Minister Robert Persaud said that residents should show appreciation for the investment in their community.

According to the Government Information Agency (GINA), the 2.9-mile all-weather road will in particular enable the transport of paddy from the fields to the mills.

The road was built under the Poor Rural Communities Support Services Project. GINA said that prior to the construction of the road farmers had to use the earthen embankment which became impassable during the rainy season.

Commissioning the road, Persaud said that beneficiaries should not only utilize the infrastructure but show appreciation for the investment.

“He noted that they should be reminded of the previous state of the roadway and compare its present state because sometimes developments are made and people do not appreciate the investments”, GINA said.

Region Three (West Demerara/Essequibo Islands) Chairman Julius Faerber and a representative of the Water Users Association expressed gratitude for the investment.
