Does the minister know the cost of building a home?

Dear Editor,

It looks like another year of woes for the Guyanese people. Firstly, we have Harrinarine Nawbatt aka Mugabe to deal with. I call him Mugabe, because he wants to take land back. I don’t think this honourable minister has any idea what’s the cost of building a low income home in Guyana. It’s not that these people don’t want to build and own a home, many of them can hardly provide meals for their families when the day is done.

Secondly, we have more woes in deciding how to enjoy the new tax threshold of $35,000 in reality it translates to $2333.33 – 364(NIS) = $1964.33 that the government has so kindly given. Anyhow thank God for small mercies. I hope this puts me in a better position to secure a loan to build my house before Mugabe takes the land back.

I’m just wishing that the president would leave the tax threshold at $28,000 and be bold enough to reduce the VAT percentage to 9%

Yours faithfully,
